Book: 3500 - An Autistic Boy's Ten-Year
Romance with Snow White by Ron Miles
There are moments in life
you can't plan. While you know a major event is
occurring, the little events that occur
throughout that day are what truly make up that
day. On May 31, 2012, I was at a major event:
the closing of Snow White's Scary Adventures.
Little did I realize that the events that would
happen that night would stick with me for
different reasons than I ever imagined.
There was an autistic boy there
that night named Ben who loved Snow White's
Scary Adventures more than probably anything
else in the world. That night he was going for a
record by riding the attraction for his 3,500th
time! That's quite the accomplishment! His story
began to touch the hearts of everyone in line
and by the end of the night, I was sure the
story would just be a happy memory I would look
back on.
Luckily for me, and other
readers, Ben's father, Ron Miles, had been
jotting down Ben's story throughout the years so
he could at some point share his son's love
story with Snow White with the world.
3500 - An Autistic Boy's
Ten-Year Romance with Snow White is one of the
most inspirational stories you will ever read.
Even though you know Ben will eventually hit the
impressive number, you can't help but cheer for
him along the way hoping he will do it. The true
gem of the book though isn't Ben's story, but
Ron's. Throughout the book we learn the ups and
downs a parent goes through raising an autistic
child. We cheer as Ben tries to sing with Ron
while our hearts stop when Ben is in so much
pain but can't explain to his parents what's
wrong.
Whether you know someone with
autism, are a parent, or are just a big Disney
nut, this book is a must read! It has something
for everyone and from the moment I picked the
book up, I couldn't put it down until I had
finished Ben and Ron's amazing story that took
them from rainy Seattle to sunny Orlando.
