The Oasis opened with Disney's Animal Kingdom in
1998 and has, for the most part, gone unchanged since then.
While designing Disney's Animal Kingdom the Imagineers
decided to have the Oasis be a a kind of preview of what
guests can expect in the rest of Disney's Animal Kingdom.
You'll notice while walking through this area that you can
not see the Tree of Life, which, like Cinderella Castle, is
meant to draw you to the center of the park. Why wouldn't
the Imagineers want guests to see the Tree of Life right
away and get excited for the rest of their day? The main
reason they do this is so guests will take the time to
explore the Oasis and watch the many animals that call this
area of the park home.
With several paths that are out of the way, a guest could
spend a lot of time just exploring this often overlooked
land. While there are no attractions in this portion of the
park, you can observe anteaters, Hyacinth Macaws, sloths,
and more!
Fun Facts: There is a hidden Chip and Mrs.
Potts in the stone work of the Oasis. While it is extremely
debatable, some truly believe that these two were
intentionally left here. Please see October 17, 2010's Movie
Update in the Update section of
this website for pictures.
Touring Tips: Most people tend to leave the
park by going on the paths on the right and left hand side
of the cave that is in front of them while crossing the
bridge. Take a walk into the cave to find an unexplored
trail with a rickety bridge!
