Return to Tomorrowland Attractions

The Story: Hop aboard the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover and take a spin around Tomorrowland. "Here you'll be able to preview some of the exciting attractions you can experience today in this land of tomorrow." While riding aboard the Peoplemover, guests travel throughout most of Tomorrowland while passing above and through attractions like Stitch's Great Escape, Space Mountain, Carousel of Progress, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, and Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor.

In addition to getting a preview of the attractions, guests also travel past a model of Progress City, which showed some of Walt Disney's original plans for his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (Epcot). After guests make their grand circle tour of Tomorrowland, their trip concludes by debarking at Rockettower Plaza Station!

The History: The Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover, or Peoplemover, or TTA, or whatever you want to call it, has had quite the history. (Please note that while we go through the history I will refer to the attraction by what it was called during that time frame so I apologize for any confusion!)

The Peoplemover originally opened in Disneyland back on July 2, 1967 as part of the new Tomorrowland. When the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971, the majority of Tomorrowland was far from completion so the idea of having a Peoplemover attraction in the new park was put on the backburner until more of Tomorrowland was complete. While construction on Space Mountain finished, the final touches on the WEDWay Peoplemover were put into play and the attraction opened in the middle of 1975 with the theme of taking guests on a tour of Tomorrowland and a narration provided by Jack Wagner (a Disney theme parks voice veteran).

In 1985 Tomorrowland went through a major refurbishment to introduce the "New Tomorrowland," since the original Tomorrowland was beginning to look like a Yesterdayland. Since The WEDWay Peoplemover passed by all areas of Tomorrowland the narration needed to be updated. The new role was given to ORAC-1 Commuter Computer. The attraction would remain this way until 1994 when it received not only a new narration, but the first name change as well.

The Tomorrowland Transit Authority (TTA) focused on a new storyline which didn't focus around the idea of showcasing what was in Tomorrowland, but rather by putting guests into the role of being a citizen of Tomorrowland. Guests were now traveling on the blue line, one of the TTA's three lines that traveled around the city (the other two lines consisted of green and red). Instead of passing attractions that guests could ride, the attractions were actually announced as different stations like a train or subway.

While this version of the attraction remained popular among guests in 2009 Space Mountain went through a major refurbishment. Due to the fact that TTA traveled through Space Mountain the attraction was closed for quite some time as well and eventually reopened in 2009 with a brand new narration, name, and storyline.

This time around guests were traveling aboard the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover and were once again getting a preview of Tomorrowland and the many attractions guests could experience during their trip there. While the audio from the TTA version disappeared, signs of it still remained around including signs for the red and green line shortly after the Progress City diorama!

The Peoplemover originally opened on July 1, 1975.

The Amazing Race:

If you have figured out the six phrases that were shortened, cross out the letters you received from those words (if a word was Super then cross of S, U, P, E, and R below) to get just a few letters left standing. Unscramble these letters to figure out where you should head to next!

Fun Facts: The model of Progress City was originally located in the post show area of Carousel of Progress in Disneyland. In 1975 Carousel of Progress, and half of the model, made their way to Walt Disney World to make Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom their permanent residence.

Location: Tomorrowland.

Touring Tips: The attraction typically has one of the shortest waits throughout the entire park. If you don't want to get off and go for a reride, just let the Cast Member at the unload platform know. If it's not busy you may not have to get off!
