Location: Echo Lake, Disney's Hollywood Studios
Anyone who has seen One Man's Dream has heard the
story about Walt packing up all his belongings in a cardboard
suitcase and moving from Kansas City to L.A. with only $40 in his
pocket. The big question that is never answered is where on earth
was his first office located? It's hard to wrap our heads around the
fact that someone could live off of such a small amount of money,
but Walt and Roy, after going into business for themselves, found a
nice little place to set up shop on Kingswell Aventue.
So how does this connect with Echo Lake and the
picture above when there is clearly no Kingswell Avenue in sight?
There are a few items you should take note of in the picture above.
The first is the sign on the door, while the second is the For Rent
sign in the window above. When Walt and Roy first set up office
their office they shared a room with the Holly-Vermont Realty
company. It's here where they shot some of their Alice's Wonderland
shorts in the early 1920s. The two eventually left in 1925 for a
bigger location. Due to time period at Echo Lake taking place around
the same time the Disney Brothers would have left, the For Rent sign
is now placed in the window.
So what's with the sign on the door? Upon closer
inspection we see that it belongs to none other than the
Holly-Vermont Realty Company, the very company that Walt and Roy
shared an office with so long ago!
