Jack Kelly can be found in the 1992 Walt Disney
musical, 'Newsies.' The wonderful film is set during the New York
City newsboy strike of 1899, about 30 years before the Great
Depression. During the film orphans turned to selling newspapers to
make money for life essentials such as food, clothing, and other
various things. Jack, the star of the film, can also be found in
other merchandise such as books, clothing, CDs, and I have also seen
a few Newsies artwork with Jack Kelly floating around the internet.
He lives in a New York orphanage with the rest of
the Newsies. He has many friends he can count on such as David
Jacobs, Crutchy, Byran Denton, Medda Larkson, Theodore Roosevelt,
Sarah Jacobs, Mush Meyers, Les Jacobs, and Racetrack Higgins to name
a few. His enemies include Joseph Pulitzer, and Mister Snyder.
Jack Kelly wears black dress shoes, grey pants, a
grey button up shirt, a black with pinstripes suit vest, black
suspenders, and he wears a red bandana around his neck. He has long
brown hair and brown eyes. His real name is Francis Sullivan. He is
the leader of the Newsies, and is very adventurous, good hearted,
and a great storyteller.
He was played by Christian Bale in the 1992 film
and has also been played on Broadway by Jeremy Jordan and most
recently Corey Cott.
Jack Kelly can't be found at Disney theme parks.
It would be nice to see them used in the parks. They did perform
during the 2012 Disney Parks Christmas Parade. They can also be seen
on Broadway in the hit musical 'Newsies.'
