Location: Dinoland, USA, Disney's Animal Kingdom
We've spent quite a bit of time talking about
Dinoland, USA in various Fun Finds, Hidden Mickey's, and even during
the 53rd episode of
the W.E.D.nesday Show! During all of these past times we haven't
really entered into the Dinosaur attraction itself, until now.
Let's do a little history lesson real quick! Back
before the movie, Dinosaur, came out, the current attraction
Dinosaur followed an almost identical storyline, but had a different
name: Countdown to Extinction. Countdown to Extinction, which opened
in 1998, became one of the main E-ticket attractions during the
first years of Disney's animal Kingdom. However, with the addition
of Aladar and the Carnotaurus, Countdown to Extinction disappeared,
but not all references to the past attraction would disappear as
well.
While in the loading area for the attraction, try to
board on the right hand side. While at the seatbelt check, take a
look at the wall to the right to find the following image:

Here lies a nice little nod to the former attraction
and the park opening in the form of Sector CTX-WDI-AK98. What does
it all mean? Well, CTX stands for Countdown
To eXtinction, while WDI stands for
Walt Disney Imagineering.
Finally, AK98 pays homage to Disney's Animal
Kingdom opening up in 1998! Now,
let's go get that dino!
